From A Dead Sleep - John A. Daly
There are times when the truth invites evil, and there are times when the truth can get you killed. Few residents in the secluded mountain-town of Winston, Colorado, have kind words to say about local troublemaker Sean Coleman. He's a bully, a drunk, and a crime-show addicted armchair detective with an overactive imagination. After a night of poor judgment, Sean finds himself the sole witness to the unusual suicide of a mysterious stranger. With the body whisked away in the chilling rapids of a raging river, no one believes Sean's account. When his claim is met with doubt and mockery from the people of Winston, Sean embarks on a far-reaching crusade that takes him across the country in search of the dead man's identity and personal vindication. He hopes to find redemption and the truth---but sometimes the truth is better left unknown.
I was asked to review this for Netgalley. I tried to understand the characters of this story, from the simple Sean Coleman who's a kinda drunk and a bit of a bloke who cried wolf too many times, but the final time was meant to be taken seriously. I disliked the sheriff (his brother in law) and some of the other characters as they weren't too friendly towards him. I liked the little boy who has problems. Sean and him get on and he asks questions as well.
A very through and enjoyable read from an author I can't wait to read other books by.
Private L.A. - James Patterson
Jack Morgan investigates the disappearance of the biggest superstar couple in Hollywood.
Thom and Jennifer Harlow are the perfect couple, with three perfect children. They may be two of the biggest movie stars in the world, but they're also great parents, philanthropists and just all-round good people.
When they disappear without a word from their ranch, facts are hard to find. They live behind such a high wall of security and image control that even world-renowned investigator Jack Morgan can't get to the truth. But as Jack keeps probing, secrets sprout thick and fast - and the world's golden couple may emerge as hiding behind a world of desperation and deception that the wildest reality show couldn't begin to unveil. Murder is only the opening scene.
I was asked to review this for Netgalley as I had already read the others in the series.
I would say I loved Jack Morgan's character as the way he gets himself into all sort of scraps is amazing. His team are always there with him and would love to know what happens with the outcome to his brother's trial.
Can't wait for book 8 Mr Patterson :D

Faceless - Dawn Kopman Whidden
A pretty teenage girl is found dead in the woods, her face horribly mutilated. A few days later, a second girl, also strikingly beautiful, is attacked in a similar fashion.
Who would do such a brutal thing—and why?
Is there some sort of psychopathic monster lurking out there, preying upon vulnerable females? Or were the victims targeted for some reason by someone they knew?
It’s up to two of Fallsburg’s finest, Detective Jean Whitley and her new partner, Marty Keal, to find out who’s responsible for the grisly crimes.
When she starts digging up clues, Jean is startled to learn that the crime has hit uncomfortably close to home. The victims—and many of the potential suspects—are classmates of Jean’s fourteen-year-old daughter, Bethany.
To make matters worse, Bethany’s behavior has drastically changed. Jean’s sweet, loving child has become a sullen, secretive stranger.
How much does Bethany really know about the victims—and the crimes that have taken place? Did Bethany’s hunky new heartthrob have anything to do with the crimes? And why does the mounting evidence keep pointing to a popular parish priest?
Dawn Kopman Whidden’s newest book, Faceless, returns readers to the town of Fallsburg, New York, as seen through the eyes of Detective Jean Whitley, two years after the events of Whidden’s previous book, A Child is Torn.
Suddenly deprived of her longtime police detective mentor and friend, Jean is forced to take the lead in this latest investigation, while breaking in a new partner.
As they dig deeper into the case, Jean encounters threats to her career, her family relationships, and possibly even to her own daughter’s life.
Through it all, Jean and Marty must unravel a multi-layered mystery and put a face on the unseen villain, before anyone else ends up dead…and faceless.
I was given a copy of this book for review from the author.
I had already read A Child is Torn “Innocence Lost” by her last year. When I picked this up, I knew I was in for a treat with the style of writing.
You get to know more about the Detectives and their family in this book. You get taken on a whirlwind ride through all the highs and lows of life in the suburbs.
I loved the characters, the plot and most of all I LOVED way the detectives catch the killer.

Bishop Street by Rene D. Schultz
“Bishop Street” is a heartwarming and redemptive novel that captures the complex relationships between four orphans and their lifetime of challenges. It’s uplifting and with each turn of the page you fall more in love with the characters.
Margaret Gray for the past twenty years has hidden behind a facade of normalcy. She wasn't always rich and famous. At the age of seven her mother abandons her on the steps of the Bishop Street Orphanage with a note pinned to her coat. Here, under the cruel tutelage of Sister Theresa, Maggie develops a powerful bond with her roommates, Elizabeth, Lucy and Randolph. Their close friendship fortifies them against the years of physical abuse, emotional torment, and manipulation that follow.
Now, Maggie is thirty-nine and her nightmares are coming back. Despite a successful writing career and a flawless reputation, she is unable to keep all that she has built from crumbling around her. It’s been twenty years since she’s heard from her friends. Why didn't they answer her letters? Had they survived? Had Sister Theresa been right, or had she manipulated them all with lies, aiming to destroy their friendship, forever?
Sister Theresa is dead and with nothing left to fear, Maggie hires Damon Depre, a private investigator to find her friends, and seek the truth. This starts her down a twisted path that will once again, test her strength of character. Will she find more than just her friends...
I was given this by the author as I had read a previous book DONE DEAL.
This is a wonderful story of 4 friends who was growing up in an Orphanage and through the love and determination of 1 woman, they all come together in their hours of need.
I found Maggie who is an author and is a wonderful woman who wanted nothing more than to find her 3 friends who were like family. Elizabeth is a homebody with 5 wonderful children and a lovely husband and a lovely person. Randolph is a man who is so full of life now that he can buy whatever he wants after his upbringing. Lucy is the lovely woman who has problems with addiction, with love and help from her friends who are like family, she can get through anything.
I loved the characters and the way the story melded into what happens to each character and how they've over the obstacles in their lives.

Alice in Wonderland: The Vampire Slayer by J.J. Maddox & Lewis Carroll
From the time she was a small girl, Alice Graves has been groomed to be a vampire slayer. While other children learned to jump rope and recite their ABCs, Alice was schooled in the arts of staking, bloodletting, and decapitation.
It's a good thing, too, since she's just followed a giant vampire down a rabbit-hole, only to find herself plunged into a strange world ruled by an evil Blood Queen.
Welcome to Alice's Vampire Wonderland, where nothing is what it seems and all of her slayer's skills will be put to the test if she's to survive the treacherous hours between dusk and dawn.
A fast-paced, fun twist on a timeless classic!
I picked this up as I liked the cover and the title of the book. Lewis Carroll is to be recommended for giving his beloved book a twist.
When I started reading it, it took me back to when I used to read Alice in Wonderland as a little girl. I loved the twist with Alice being a Vampire Slayer. It didn't take me long to read the book particularly as I had a way of reminiscing the olden days of reading the story.
I would recommend this for people who remember Alice in Wonderland and who love Vampires.

Soul Mates Forever - Vicki Green
‘Love …captures us in a moment and changes us forever’
When love isn’t enough to break through the walls that were built so long ago, how is true happiness ever found? Paxton Davenport built these walls when every guy she met only wanted her gorgeous body. Her modeling career really takes off after returning to L.A. from her best friend’s wedding. But her thoughts continually plague her of the hot rocker, Tucker Williams, who pursued her both times she visited her friend. Her rich parents have never provided the attention or love she needed growing up. She is considered your typical 21 year old rich bitch, snooty to most but deep inside she is the most loving and caring person you could ever know.
Tucker, or Tuck as everyone knows him, grew up in a house where a normal day was seeing his parents drugged out, no food to be found and finding solace in his guitar. His mom ending up in prison and his dad dying from an overdose leads him to falling in with the wrong crowd. With the help of friends, at the age of 22, he finds himself as a tattoo artist by day, the leader of a Rock band (Razers Edge) by night. He falls head over heels for Paxton one night when the band is playing at Barton’s bar but she won’t give him the time of day.
Will Tuck ever get through Paxton’s walls or annoy the hell out of her trying?
*Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

I was asked to read and review this for the author. What can I say about a story that has love, sex and an explosive storyline. Tucker is what every woman dreams of in a man and Paxton is what every man dreams of in a woman. When they get together you can expect explosive things to happen.
You get to meet some of the previous characters from the last 2 books and more characters in this book. I loved every single minute of reading this wonderful and fulfilling book. Can't wait to read more from this wonderful author in the future.

Under Different Stars - Amy A. Bartol
All she wants is a home, but can she find one...UNDER DIFFERENT STARS
Kricket Hollowell is normally not one to wish upon stars; she believes they’re rarely in her favor. Well versed at dodging caseworkers from Chicago’s foster care system, the past few years on her own have made Kricket an expert at the art of survival and blending in. With her 18th birthday fast approaching, she dreams of the day when she can stop running and find what her heart needs most: a home.
Trey Allairis hates Earth and doubts that anyone from his world can thrive here. What he’s learning of Kricket and her existence away from her true home only confirms his theory. But, when he and Kricket lie together under the stars of Ethar, counting them all may be easier than letting her go.
Kyon Ensin’s secrets number the stars; he knows more about Kricket's gifts than anyone and plans to possess her because of them. He also knows she’s more valuable than any fire in the night sky. He’ll move the heavens and align them all in order to make her his own.
When everything in their world can be broken, will Kricket rely upon love to save her under different stars?
I was asked to read this book for the author. When I 1st started it, I wasn't sure on the writing and the style the story was written under. I left the book for a bit and then a few days ago, I got back into it and boy did it take off.
I loved the characters and the way that Kricket stands up for herself on Earth and on Ethar. I loved Trey for being so non-transparent about his feelings and his army for helping them both in times of trouble.
Really good story from a great author.
