Addicted by Nigel May

ADDICTED

Getting clean is a dirty business

The wine heiress, the faded entertainer, the operatic diva, the politician's wife - four women who can’t say no….

Four women who should be happy with what life has given them. Success, beauty, money and fame. But never judge a book by its cover, because on the outside they may all seem to be completely in control of their lives, but under their fashionable facades, deep within their souls, they are all battling with a common demon…they are all addicted. Addicted to things that could ruin their very existence. In fact for one, it will snuff it out for good.

Four women…one death, one killer…

Nigel's first glam-fiction novel, TRINITY, is available online now.

I would like to thank Bookouture, Netgalley and the lovely Mr Nigel May for the copy of this highly addictive book.

OMG, what happened there I can't comprehend the way Mr May weavered his magic in this lustrous novel. The characters you just love to hate with their flash of money, lifestyle and men (sex on tap). I kinda guessed who the killer was, but there was shocks, laughs and even gasps along the way with this highly addicted (pun intended) novel.

I can't wait to read more from Mr May as he really does write close to Ms Jackie Collins.

All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes by Betsy St. Amant

She's written a recipe for her future, but does it include love?
Katherine 'Kat' Varland is a small town girl, born and raised---and every day, her dreams of owning her own bakery get further away. She has no money, and the cupcake shop she bakes for, Sweetie Pies, seems to get smaller and smaller. Kat might be the sweetheart of Bayou Bend, Louisiana, but she longs to make a name for herself where she can flourish as Kat---not as the girl baking someone else's recipes.
As head coach for the Bayou Bend championship high school football team, Lucas Brannen is used to winning---everything except his best friend's heart. He finally gathers the courage to make a gesture and show Kat his feelings by signing her up for the popular reality TV show Cupcake Combat. But his plan backfires after he realizes the cash prize for the winner also includes a one-year baking contract at one of New York City's most famous pastry houses.
The situation grows sticky when Kat enlists Lucas's help as her baking assistant for the show. Lucas is torn between helping Kat live her dream and selfishly wanting to keep her in town. His plan has always been a dozen acres of land and a farmhouse in Bayou Bend---but Kat is blinded by the stars in her eyes.
Will Lucas and Kat risk their chance at love in order to achieve their individual dreams? Or will they find that sometimes the most delicious happily-ever-afters begin and end in the same place?

I would like to thank the publishers and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this lovely book.

When I started this book, I was frustrated at the main 2 characters as you could see where you wanted the book to head. It was lovely to see them move away from their hometown and try and explore their feelings as well. Loved Kat's ideas on her cupcakes. This made me feel like I was watching Masterchef (on any of the tv channels) but a cupcake version. There was cattiness in there as well (much as you would expect any kind of competition). But would Kat leave Lucas for the bright lights and the chance to make her own cupcakes. All will be revealed when you read this delightful book.

An American Girl in Italy by Aubrie Dionne

An Italian paradise is the last thing she wants… but the one thing she needs!
Surely any girl would kill for the chance to tour Italy’s most famous cities for the summer? To experience the warmth of the Tuscan sun, the culinary delights of the pizzerias and caffés and to stroll along the cobbled streets of the City of Love itself…
Any girl apart from ambitious oboist Carly Davis that is! For her, the Easthampton Civic Symphony’s latest European tour is one massive inconvenience. She can’t even put her smartphone down long enough to snap a picture of the Coliseum.
Only, there’s one Italian attraction that Carly hadn’t quite expected to be a part of the tourist route…

Tour guide Michelangelo is as dark and delicious as Carly’s morning espresso. And when she needs a few lessons in the language of love to land her an important gig, he’s a more than capable tutor.

But with her promising career back in Boston, can Carly really afford to lose her heart in Italy?

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for the lovely review copy of this book.

I found some of the characters endearing to say the least. The 2 main characters have a fiery feel from the book. Carly is an oboist who doesn't really want to be in Italy. Michaelangelo is Italian with a vineyard and LOADS of complications. What happens when these two collide is apparently anything but fireworks. Add in a drop of a diva and a load of orchestra confusion and you have a lovely story for love.

Never been to Italy before, but reading this it feels like I've been shown the delights of some of the historical museums and the vineyards of  heaven.

Daddy's Home (Holly Jennings #1) by A.K. Alexander

They call him “the Family Man,” the cunning killer who preys upon single mothers and their innocent children, hunting for a family to call his own. But when they fail to meet his unyielding demands for perfection—and they always do—he kills.

Holly Jennings is the San Diego PD’s top crime scene investigator. She’s also a single mother struggling to raise her daughter alone and to dealing with her feelings for another man in the wake of her husband’s death. The Family Man case hits her hard—but even harder when her friend becomes his latest victim.

Determined to stop this psychopath once and for all, Holly delves deep into the investigation, combing through evidence for clues to his identity. But the closer she gets to the truth, the further she must venture down a dark path that could cost her everything: her family, her newfound love—even her life. A Wall Street Journal bestseller, this edgy page-turner is guaranteed to keep readers riveted into the wee hours of the morning.

I have been meaning to read/listen to this since I listened to Mommy, May I? a while ago. This is the 1st of her series that introduces a fiesty cop that is on a case that is close to her heart. I found the main character really endearing and fiesty at times. Family Man aka Daddy is a horrid man who has thoughts of what a Dad is. He is a delusional man who thinks any single woman with a kid in tow is a ready made family.

What happens whilst she is looking for this delusional man will make your skin crawl and scream at the book to make people notice. Will be interesting what happens in the next book.
